Introducing Learning Teaching Units (LTU) to Albanian VET. An advanced teachers’ class by Institute Vergani-Navarra of Ferrara

Within the Pema teachers’ training program devoted to increase Albanian Agriculture VET teachers’ knowledge and methodologies, a special training course took place from June 12 to June 13 at Rakip Kryeziu school in Fier.

The training session was delivered by Prof. Stefano Giatti and Prof. Vittorio Fadda of Vergani-Navarra Institute of Ferrara and saw the participation of all Rakip Kryeziu teachers.

At the center of the training session was the innovative approach of Learning Teaching Units (LTU) which has been introduced over the last years in Italian and European upper secondary VET.

LTUs is not just a new way of transferring knowledge since it overhauls the basic concept of knowledge comunication in class. It is a methodology that requires collaborative attitude on the part of all teachers of a class or school and is aimed at calibrating personalised teaching to each student to increase competencies based on two key concept: the context of learning in terms of region or territory offering specific opportunities to learn about agriculture potential; the targeted learning approach at individual level taking into consideration her/his overall competencies in terms of skills, attitude and capacity.

In the Italian experience LTUs have defined a new approach to learning based on trainees’ competencies rather than on standard choice of curriculum thematic topics.

The training session in Fier introduced the LTU methodology to VET teachers through examples and case studies highlighting also the targeted learning approach to each single students aimed to increase soft skills behind hard ones.

At the end of the session each VEt teacher received a certificate of attendance.
